How We Blended Jewish and Croatian Traditions into One Unforgettable Multi-Cultural Wedding

One of the greatest privileges of being a wedding celebrant is helping couples create a ceremony that truly reflects who they are, their values, their families and their unique love story.
Recently, I had the pleasure of working with a wonderful couple who wanted to honour both their Jewish and Croatian heritage while creating a warm, modern and highly personalised wedding ceremony. Their vision was clear from our very first meeting: they wanted a ceremony that celebrated not only their love for one another, but also the cultures, traditions and families that had shaped them.
Creating a culturally meaningful wedding requires careful planning, sensitivity and attention to detail. Together, we spent time exploring which traditions were most important to them and how these could be incorporated seamlessly into their ceremony.
One of the highlights was the involvement of their families. We included a personalised parental blessing that acknowledged the love, guidance and support their parents had provided throughout their lives. It was a heartfelt moment that resonated deeply with everyone present and reflected the strong family values that sit at the heart of both Jewish and Croatian culture.
The couple also had a large bridal party and wanted their closest family members and friends to play an active role in the ceremony. We carefully incorporated readings, blessings and witness roles, ensuring that those who meant the most to them were included in a meaningful way.
As with all of my couples, I provided my comprehensive "Wedding Information Kit", filled with ideas, inspiration and examples to help them shape their ceremony. Together we worked on their love story, selected readings that reflected their personalities, and crafted vows that felt authentic, heartfelt and uniquely theirs.
To help them feel relaxed and confident, I also welcomed them into my home for their wedding rehearsal the day before the ceremony. This gave everyone the opportunity to understand their roles, ask questions and enjoy a stress-free run-through before the big day.
I believe it is often the small details that make the biggest difference. To complement their venue and chosen colour palette, I personally designed custom vow cards and reading cards that coordinated beautifully with the overall styling of the wedding. These thoughtful touches helped create a cohesive and elegant experience for both the couple and their guests.
What I loved most about this wedding was seeing how two rich cultural traditions could be woven together so naturally. The result was a ceremony that felt authentic, inclusive and deeply personal—a celebration that honoured the past while looking forward to a bright future together.
